The Griffin Christian Lady Crusaders volleyball team has only two matches left in the regular season and despite having clinched all they could clinch, there will be no rest for the weary leading up to the GISA Class AA state playoffs.

The No. 3 state-ranked Lady Crusaders will hit the road for both matches this week — they travel to Carrollton to play Oak Mountain today at 6 p.m. and then travel to Douglasville to face No. 4 state-ranked Heirway Christian Thursday at 6 p.m. The Heirway match was moved to Thursday from Friday since Griffin Christian is celebrating homecoming on Friday.

“We’ll be using this week to try and stay sharp; we’ll keep on plowing ahead so we can be on a roll for state,” said GC coach Melanie Foster. “Plus, we want to make a statement to both of these teams. If we make it to the second round of the state playoffs, it’s likely we’ll see at least one of these two teams.”

The Lady Crusaders beat both these teams at home earlier in the season 3-games-to-none.

Even though the Lady Crusaders will have to travel this week, the GC fans will get to stay at home one time during the state playoffs. Griffin Christian, the Region 3-AA champions, will host a first-round state playoff match against the No. 4 seed from Region 1 on Monday, Oct. 22 at 5 p.m.

Should GC win that match, the Lady Crusaders will hit the road as the rest of the state playoffs will take place at Augusta Prep Day School. The state quarterfinals and state semifinals will be held on Oct. 26, while the state finals will be held on Oct. 27.
