The Lady Hornets (14-3 overall) didn’t ease up after accumulating a 51-16 halftime lead in which 8 of their 9 players totaled at least 4 points. In fact, if the fourth quarter wasn’t shortened to six minutes, Westfield may have even broken into 100-point territory.
The game didn’t start out well for the Lady Crusaders (7-8 overall, 1-2 GISA Region 4-AA), which gave up eight straight points before getting a basket of their own. Westfield’s Valerie McLure (14 points) led the way in the first quarter, going 4-4 from the foul line and making a jump shot to add to the Lady Hornets' 21-6 lead.
Griffin Christian played better in the second, but still managed to let Westfield expand to a 35-point advantage. In the third, the Hornets made it clear they weren’t messing around. Griffin Christian came out of the locker room with a full court press, but Westfield destroyed it with a 14-2 run, not letting up until they racked up a 78-21 lead heading into the fourth.
The Lady Hornets rested their starters in the last period, but that didn’t stop them from getting 15 points to round out the game.
Westfield’s Callie Hammerle and Chelsea Whaley led their team with 18 points each, along with 15 from McKinley Watton and 9 from Sydney Ledford.
Griffin Christian will play its next game at home against GISA Region 4-AA opponent Flint River Academy (10-2 overall) on Friday.
