STOCKBRIDGE — The Jonesboro Lady Cardinals sprinted out to a 21-6 first quarter lead over the Griffin Lady Bears and rolled from there, blitzing Griffin 68-29 Friday afternoon in the semifinals of the Region 4-AAAA Tournament held at Woodland High School. Jonesboro beat Griffin for the third time this season.

The iron was unkind to the Lady Bears all game long, as the No. 3 seed just couldn't make its shots while No. 1 seed Jonesboro couldn't miss. At one point in the second quarter, Jonesboro (23-4) led 30-8 and the rout was on. Chelsea Prather's six points in the period got Griffin (12-14) under 20 points at the half and it trailed Jonesboro 36-17 at the break.

There was no rally this time for the Lady Bears, as Jonesboro maintained a 20-point or more advantage throughout the second half. Griffin made a few good plays, as guard Ashton Elliott dished to Xandria Hosely for a few layups in the third quarter and Victoria Middlebrooks and Alexis Roberts had 2 blocks each, but that was about it. Jonesboro extended its lead to 48-26 heading into the fourth quarter and cruised from there.

Middlebrooks led Griffin with 7 points and Prather and Hosely chipped in 6 points each. Lady Cards guard Victoria Florence led all scorers with 23 points and Briana Benson added 14 for Jonesboro, which advances to the region championship game today at 6 p.m. Griffin will play in the 3rd-4th place game today at 3 p.m. All games will be held at Woodland High.
