The Griffin Lady Bears softball team got in a hole early and couldn’t dig out of it, falling to the No. 6 state-ranked Ola Lady Mustangs 6-0 Wednesday evening in Region 3-AAAA action at home.
Griffin now falls to 0-4 overall and 0-4 in the region. The Lady Bears haven’t scored a run in 23 innings of play, but to be fair, they’ve faced the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 6 ranked teams in the state so far this year.
Griffin had the best chance to score in the bottom of the fifth, down 4-0.
Katie Rowell started the inning with a walk and Sierra Barlow surprised Ola with a bunt base hit.
Griffin tried a double steal, but Rowell was thrown out at third for the first out. Angel Crawford then struck out and Amani Durant grounded out to end the threat.
Ola got its final two runs on a sac fly and an error in the seventh. The Lady Bears committed 4 errors in the game.
Barlow did make the defensive play of the game in the fourth inning.
Diving to her right, she stopped a ground ball headed for the outfield, got up quickly and threw to Alex Smith at third for the first out of the inning.
