The 330-pound defensive tackle had already signed with and was enrolled at Hines Community College in Mississippi prior to national signing day this past week.
The 330-pound defensive tackle, already enrolled at Hines Community College in Mississippi, was named the team’s recipient of the Golden Helmet Award at last month’s team banquet.
During his time at Griffin, the Bears have posted a 41-8 record, finishing region champs one, state semifinalists once, subregion champs three times in four years while making the state field all four years.

STATE SWIM MEET: ATLANTA — Spalding High sophomore Chelsea Jacobs enjoyed a banner day in the state meet Friday at Georgia Tech, not only finishing first in her heat but also setting a new school record in he 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:13.68.
“For me, in my heart, it was like she won state,” Spalding head coach Dolores Owen said of Jacobs’ performance. “She represented Spalding High to the highest degree.”
Although Jacobs finished 26th out of 38 swimmers — eight places ahead of where she was seeded — she still missed qualifying for the later rounds by a full 3 seconds.
It was her first time qualifying for the state meet.
“I was still real proud of her,” said Owen. “She has two more years to get where she needs to be.”

SHS BASEBALL: The Spalding High baseball team has three upcoming fund raisers.
The first is a BBQ plate sale Feb. 23, furnished by Huckleberry’s. Tickets, $10 each, can be picked up from any Jags player. BBQ plates can be picked up from 11 a.m., to 1 p.m., in conjunction with the team’s 100-inning game that day.
The second fund raiser is the Applebee’s Pancake breakfast from 8-9 a.m., and from 9-10 a.m., March 2. Tickets are $7 and they can be bought from any Jag players. The players will also be there serving breakfast.
The team’s third fund raiser is the team’s annual Golf Tournament on March 9th at the Griffin City Course. Cost is $200 per team. Start time is 9 a.m.
Anyone interested in buying tickets for either or both events they can contact Jags head coach Mickey Moody, booster club president Ted Harris or any Jags baseball player.
