Spalding County voters must decide on July 31 whether to approve or reject a proposed one-percent sales tax for 10 years to fund transportation projects — known to most simply as T-SPLOST.

The Kiwanis Club of Griffin got a closer look at the issue when Robert Hiett, governmental services director for the Three Rivers Regional Commission, spoke to Kiwanians about the T-SPLOST Wednesday.

Hiett explained to the audience that money raised in each district stays in that district.

“None of your dollars are going to have anything to do with MARTA,” he said, adding Spalding County should receive $22.9 million in unrestricted transportation funding and $74.9 million in funding designated for specific projects within the county if T-SPLOST is approved.
