John Monroe Meeks Sr., 69, of Hardeeville, S.C., passed away Saturday, June 27, 2009, at his home.
He was born July 20, 1939, in Forsyth, Ga. He was the son of the late Guy Watson and Mandy Elizabeth Hudson Meeks. He retired as president of Lobeco Products Chemical Company Inc. after 30 years. He was a member of Orchard Hill Baptist Church in Orchard Hill, Ga. He attended Hardeeville Baptist Church. He loved his family and he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by one brother, Guy “Sonny” Meeks; and one sister, Mary Prescott.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Harper Meeks, of Hardeeville, S.C.; one son, John M. “Rocky” Meeks Jr. and his wife, Cheryl, of Hardeeville, S.C.; five daughters, Brenda (John) Sanchez, Kim (Roy) Powell and Bonnie (Joshua) Reyna, all of Hardeeville, S.C., Connie (Stan) Turlington, of Davenport, Fla., and Kathy (Joe) Brichacek, of Rincon, Ga.; one daughter-in-law, Carol Meeks Knight, of Springfield, Ga.; one brother, Ted H. (Brenda) Meeks, of Milner, Ga.; two sisters, Patricia (Henry) Phillips and Nancy (Len) Bythewood, all of Griffin, Ga.; grandchildren, Mandy and Brittany Sanchez, Amber and Natalie Powell, Alexander and Andrew Reyna, Cody and Jordan Schumacher, all of Hardeeville, S.C., Joy Powell (Michael) Esemann, of Jacksonville, N.C., Johnny Taylor and Ryan Meeks, of Springfield, Ga., Brooke and Trey Turlington, of Davenport, Fla., Chastity (Tony) Lawson, of Rincon, Ga., Brandi (Grayson) Huskins, of Statesboro, Ga., and Lindsey Brichacek, of Rincon, Ga.; and three great-grandchildren, Hunter Sanchez, of Hardeeville, S.C., and Brianna and Brandon Lawson, of Rincon, Ga.
Funeral services for John Monroe Meeks Sr. will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2009, in Abundant Life Church in Hardeeville, S.C., with burial in Maye River Cemetery in Bluffton, S.C. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Maye River Building Fund, P.O. Box 814, Bluffton, SC 29910; or the Abundant Life Academy Sports Program, P.O. Box 310, Hardeeville, SC 29927.
