The preseason games of the Griffin High Bears (at Newnan) and the Spalding High Jags (against Pike County) are only a week away. Two weeks after that, the Bears and the Jags start their regular season at Dutchtown and against Lamar County, respectively.

For the first time, both teams play in the same region — 4-AAAA.

On Wednesday, Bears head coach Steve DeVoursney and Jags head coach Nick Davis visited the Kiwanis Club of Griffin to talk about the upcoming season.

“It’s going to be a very challenging season for us,” said Davis, who will also be the team’s defensive coordinator after making Ahmand Tinker the new offensive coordinator. “Whatever it takes to be successful is what you are seeing us do Friday night.”
