Randy Chastain (8-6), Ricky Lewis (8-4) and Christian Hughley (8-4) swept No. 1-3 singles, and Bradley Durden and Tarik Jones (8-3) and Cameron Powell and Jestin Burden (8-0) swept doubles No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, respectively, as the Bears (3-4 overall, 3-2 region) won back-to-back matches for the first time this season.
“They didn’t play not to lose — they played to win today,” said second-year Griffin head coach James Fowler.
Meanwhile, Rebecca Rose Hill (8-4), Sarah Mallett (8-1) and Forrest Dukes (8-6) swept No. 1-3 singles, and Priscilla Perez and Lauren Harness (8-5) and Kalesia Henderson and Jenna Paz (8-3) swept No. 1 and No. 2 doubles as the Lady Bears (5-2 overall, 4-1 region) won their third in a row and for the fourth time in the last five matches.
“I love this team win,” said Fowler. “It fells really nice.”
Griffin, which originally had a match scheduled for Wednesday at Woodland, had trouble getting a bus and had to reschedule the match for Monday. Griffin continues its season at 4 p.m. today at Spalding High.
