Two Crusaders — forwards Elias Seise and Austin Gill — had double-doubles Tuesday night; Seise led GCHS with 17 points and 14 rebounds and Gill added 16 points and 20 rebounds. Crusaders guard Jonathan Hammond also chipped in 16 points in the winning effort. GC (1-0) defeated The Weber School last year in the first round of the GISA Class AAA state playoffs.
“This was a good first game for us. We played very well offensively in the first half and better defensively in the second half,” said Crusaders head coach Mic Savage. “The guards pushed the ball well and the bigs were great down low.”
In the girls game, the Lady Crusaders (0-1) showed a lot of heart in their seven-point loss to Weber, especially after not scoring a single point in the first quarter.
“We played Weber even after that rough first quarter,” said Lady Crusaders coach David Hammond.
Brittany Brogdon led the GCHS girls with 10 points and Leyah Brown added seven assists. Griffin Christian’s next game is the home opener Friday against Mt. Vernon, with the girls tipoff at 6 p.m. followed by the boys at 7:30 p.m.
