Funeral announced for Williamson teen shot

Funeral services for Joshua Brandon Lively will be Tuesday.

Lively, 17, of Williamson, passed away at 7 p.m. Thursday at Atlanta Medical Center. He was reportedly shot by his stepfather Wednesday evening in their Williamson home.

According to witness statements, Lively and his stepfather, Paul Johnson, had been involved in an argument prior to the shooting. At some point during the argument, Lively reportedly obtained a knife from the kitchen and began to become aggressive toward Johnson.

Pike County Sheriff Jimmy Thomas said in a press release that Johnson then became afraid for his safety and shot Lively. Johnson surrendered to deputies without incident but has not been charged.

Thomas said the incident remains under investigation.

Deputies from the Pike County Sheriff’s Office reportedly found Lively with a gunshot wound to the head when they arrived at the scene in the Highway 362 West Place subdivision. Lively was transported by helicopter to the Atlanta Medical Center in critical condition but died died the following day from his injuries.

Lively was a student at Pike County High School, class of 2014, where according to his obituary, he was an excellent student. He attended Christ Chapel Community Church in Zebulon as well as Oak Hill Baptist Church in Griffin and was active in the youth groups at both churches.

Funeral services for Lively will be conducted on Tuesday, Jan. 15, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel at Moody-Daniel Funeral Home. Pastors Billy Smith and Clay Chasteen will officiate.

Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, 797 Memorial Drive, Griffin. Friends may visit the family on Monday evening from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home, 10170 Hwy. 19 N. Zebulon Road, Zebulon.
