The fourth annual Back to School Bash will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday at the Park at Sixth.

Hosted by the Christian Ministries Volunteer Organization, the annual Bash, first started by Arve’s, will be held in one location this year.

“Normally we were at the stores, then we just outgrew it.” said Stephanie Freeman.

Freeman said the Christian Ministries Volunteer Organization had a similar event in Pike County last Saturday. She said this Saturday, they will have 500 bookbags and all the supplies at the Park at Sixth.

They will also be giving away hot dogs and hamburgers, and have a local disc jockey, 11-year-old Riben. who Freeman said is the son of a Griffin Police officer.

Sponsors for the fourth annual Back to School Bash include Arve’s. Trinity Health Care, Christian Ministry Hospice and Beck, Owen and Murray, who Freeman said “will talk to people about how to apply for disability.”

Because of the event, streets around the Park at Sixth, will be closed Saturday morning, East Solomon Street (eastbound only) will be closed between Hill and 5th streets and 6th Street will be closed between East Solomon and Bank streets from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Why do we need to talk to people about how to apply for disability? I mean, what place does that type of key note speaker have to do with a back to school bash?
