Airport Road Park will see many holiday activities, including a visit from Santa Claus, on Tuesday at the Festival of Lights.

According to a release from Spalding County government, the event will feature many events for children, including the Santa Zone, Elf Training School and Penguin Pass.

Spalding County Recreation Superintendent Kelly Leger said the Santa Zone will offer children’s activities such as a snowball throw and cookie decorating. It is intended for children 13 and younger.

“Elf Training School is a relay-type event where participants will run through a candy-cane slalom, throw a nose on Rudolph, load Santa’s sleigh, decorate the tree and pull a sled to the finishing line,” Leger said.

Those who complete the event will receive an official elf school diploma. This event is also intended for children 13 and younger.

For younger children — those 48 inches tall or less — there will be Penguin Pass. Leger said this includes activities like naming shapes on penguins.

The event this year will also feature the Griffin Firefighters Toy Roundup. Those interested in participating should bring a new, unwrapped toy and deposit it at the receptacle at the festival.

“This is the first time firefighters have collected toys,”Leger said.

The event will begin at 6 p.m., with Santa arriving and the tree being lit at 7 p.m. Those interested in finding out more information should contact the Spalding County Parks & Recreation Department at 770-467-4750.
