WOODBURY — The Griffin Christian Crusaders basketball team jumped out to a 16-1 lead and never looked back, defeating the Flint River Wildcats 53-28 Thursday night in the GISA Region 4-AA Tournament semifinals held at Flint River Academy.

The Crusaders (22-7) led 18-5 after the first quarter but only 29-20 at the half as Flint made its free throws in the second quarter.

"They slowed the game down on us in the second quarter and got us in a little foul trouble," said Crusaders head coach Mic Savage. "Flint wanted us to stop running on them, so that's what I decided to do. We packed our zone in and Flint couldn't hit from the outside."

GC's defense was outstanding in the second half, holding Flint to only 8 second-half points. The Crusaders led 41-26 after 3 quarters and cruised to the final 53-28 margin.

Wil Savage led GC with 22 points and 10 rebounds. David Thomas added 5 points and 9 rebounds and Amir Hightower chipped in 6 assists for the Crusaders, who advanced to the region finals on Friday where they played a late game against the Furtah Falcons for the Region 4-AA championship.
