The amendment, now approved after the second reading Tuesday, removed the portion in question, Section 44-2(b)3, under additional emergency powers — “To suspend or limit the sale, dispensing or transportation of alcoholic beverages, firearms, explosives and flammable liquids and substances.”
The amendment also added the following statement to Section 44-2(b)9 under additional emergency powers: “...however, this provision does not authorize the City Manager or his designee(s) to regulate in any manor firearms or the possession, ownership, transport, carrying, transfer, sale, purchase, licensing, or registration of firearms or components of firearms, firearms dealers, or dealers in components of firearms.”
The amendment, City Attorney Drew Whalen said earlier this month, “brings our plan into compliance with state law.”
