Chambliss should resign

To the editor: It is a sad day when someone we have elected to represent us in the highest body in the land reveals that he is not the honorable man whom we elected but really the opposite of what we thought he was.

When we elected Saxby Chambliss, he told us he would not raise taxes, we thought we were electing a man of integrity, of honor. Now, we discover that he is complict with President Obama and has said that he loves his country more than he honors his word or “pledge,” synonymous with “oath” and says he will vote for higher taxes. Implicit in the word “honor” is the idea of being true to one’s word.

Most of us in Chambliss’ district grew up with parents who taught us that keeping our word was almost sacred; if we told someone something, we must follow through no matter how unpleasant for us. We were taught that keeping our word was the same thing as a pledge or an oath and keeping an oath was/is sacred.

Obviously, Chambliss’ parents never taught him about honor; or if they did, when he became a politician, he chose to forget it if it got in his way. Senator, you took an oath of office.Do you now repudiate that, too? I wonder how you will react when your grandchildren say to you, “Grandpa, they say you lied and didn’t keep your promise. Is it true?”

Since you now have revealed to those of us who voted for you that you have no problem with lying, especially, if you can come up with a corny line which you think your electorate is so stupid they will swallow hook, line, and sinker, I’m sure you will be able to to lie your way out of your grandchildren’s question.

Senator, we who elected you are not children. You signed a solemn promise with Norquist probably because it “was politically expedient.” And now you try to deceive your constituents with another lie. “I love my country more than I honor my word!” What kind of country is it where one’s word or oath or pledge is not honored. You love a country where there is no honor?

Senator, that tells us in your district that you do not represent us. We think that you must do the honorable thing and resign because you have failed us. We elected you, not knowing that your word or oath means nothing to you. You don’t seem to realize that not keeping your word makes us look as bad as you.

And now as a liar, you broke that pledge in front of all of the U.S.. Now the entire country knows Georgia elected a senator who is more interested in being esteemed by Obama and the liberal media than he is in keeping his word to his constituents. Can you possibly imagine how embarrassed we in Georgia are to have our senator pointed out as a liar; you are on a committee that will investigate other liars. That should make you capable of catching the liars; however, we must now consider that you are lying about catching the liars.

Your conduct and your actions are repehensible as a person and doubly so since you are a U.S. senator. Since you went on national televsion and said you would not honor your word, you are not fit to hold such a high office as senator from Georgia; since you represent us, that also makes the section of the state that elected you look like liars since they elected you.

Senator, under Obamacare, my health taxes are going to increase by $235, the death taxes under Obamacare will chip in, under a section of the Obamacare bill, the government can manipulate my bank account, if I sell my house, there will be a 3 per cent tax imposed, food prices are going up and, therefore, so will the taxes I pay on them. Most of us ordinary Georgians are going to have our taxes raised as much as $3,500 by Obamacare regardless of whether we go over the fiscal cliff. Too, there will be an increase in almost all local taxes; where are we ordinary Georgians going to get the money to pay all those taxes in addition to the taxes you purport to raise.

How are the poor and those of us on fixed incomes going to pay for those taxes? You don’t care as long as you are part of the gang of six; now we know why you were appointed: someone in D.C. suspected you had no honor and would do whatever necesary to help the Obama cause so they appointed you.

We have had enough of your lying; your word is no longer credible.
