The Spalding County District Attorney’s Office will be conducting a ceremony in recognition of National Crime Victims Rights Week at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Spalding County Courthouse fourth floor courtroom.

The week of April 18-24 is set aside as National Crime Victims Week and Spalding County District Attorney Scott Ballard, along with advocates of the Victim Witness Assistance Program, would like to recognize all victims throughout the Griffin Judicial Circuit, which includes Spalding, Pike, Upson and Fayette counties.

“People who are victims of criminal activity often feel that the system is stacked against them,” Ballard said. “One of the benefits of this week, when we call attention to those who have suffered at the hands of criminals, is to remind victims that they do have rights and that the courts are motivated to protect those rights. This week provides a great opportunity for the community to rally around our fellow citizens in their time of need. Victims of crime need to know that they are supported by their community.”

Featured speakers for the ceremony include Ballard, Debi Hughes, a crime survivor and Dr. Greg Moffatt, who holds a doctorate in psychology. In addition to 10 years experience working with survivors of crime, Moffatt has also worked with the FBI Academy and the city of Atlanta Cold Case Squad, and has also appeared on numerous national television networks.
