Personnel from Griffin Fire-Rescue and the Spalding County Fire Department went out to a Springer Drive residence Monday to respond to a report of a grenade being found.
According to a report from Griffin Fire-Rescue, firefighters went out at 4:16 p.m. after receiving a call from Juanita Folds about a possible explosive found at 721 Springer Drive. Shortly after they arrived, the firefighters discovered a live grenade from the World War II era.
After the firefighters evacuated the residence and secured the scene, Agent Samuel F. Baity of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation arrived and investigated the grenade.
Since the weapon was U.S. government property, a special team arrived to detonate it.
After the grenade was detonated, the firefighters left the scene. Everything was concluded by 11:55 p.m.
