The free movie series, United Bank Flicks at Sixth, concludes this Friday with “Cars 2.”

The fun starts at 7:30 p.m., with family activities, games, prizes and free refreshments, then the movie starts at dark. Movies will be shown at the J. William Edwards Pavilion in the Park at Sixth, at the corner of E. Solomon and 6th streets, across 6th Street from the Spalding County Courthouse.

In case of inclement weather, the event will be held in the City Hall parking deck. Those attending are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs for seating.

The Flicks at Sixth free movie series is presented by United Bank, Spalding County, the City of Griffin and the Griffin Main Street Program. This Friday’s movie, “Cars 2,” is the third and final movie in this year’s series, which included “Dolphin Tale,” May 18, and “The Muppets,” June 15.

To accommodate this event, the following streets will be closed to traffic from 6 p.m. until midnight on Friday, East Solomon Street (eastbound side only) between Hill and 5th streets; and 6th Street (both ways) between Bank and East Solomon streets.

While these streets are closed, walk-up access will still be available to area residences and businesses, including ‘StacheStudio, RN Fitness, Griffin Gallery, 6th Street Pier, B’Unique Hair Salon, Championship Martial Arts, Jan’s Used Furniture, Angelo’s, Newton & Howell, and others, said Griffin Main Street Program Manager Kira Harris-Braggs.

She also noted two events in August will also be held at the Park at Sixth and require similar street closings. Those events are the Back to School event, Saturday Aug. 11, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Carver Road Baptist Church Praise and Worship Service, Sunday, Aug. 26, from 4 to 8 p.m.
